In 2022, Tzu Chi University will be ranked 12th in the world by Times Higher Education World University Impact SDG3 (promoting health care and human well-being). How does Tzu Chi University fulfill it’s university responsibilities and play a role of support and advocacy at the global, national and local level? On the 4th, Tzu Chi University held the offline and online international seminar on “The New Role of Health Promoting Universities in the Era of SDG and Health Promotion”, and invited the chairman of the UNESCO “Global Health and Education” program and Professor of Faculty of Education in Clermont Auvergne University, France – Didier Jourdan and professors from Tzu Chi University and Donghua University who have long been involved in community health services to share their thoughts.
Professor Xie Kunrui (謝坤叡), Deputy Dean of Tzu Chi University Faculty of Medicine, welcomed all distinguished speakers to provide new perspectives and share valuable opinions. He said that Tzu Chi University started with the School of Medicine, and has cooperated with Tzu Chi Foundation, Tzu Chi Hospital, the government and other non-governmental organizations to encourage teachers and students to carry out various health promotion education and activities in long-term. In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tzu Chi University developed testing reagents and donated them to countries such as Indonesia, Honduras, Bolivia, and Cambodia to assist in epidemic prevention, which is one of the missions of SDG3.
A good doctor is preventing diseases before they happen. President Lin Xinrong (林欣榮) of Tzu Chi Hospital shared in his speech that Tzu Chi Hospital is currently studying the influence of the environment on genes and diseases, and how to use these data to help health promotion. We look forward to work with experts and scholars from other schools and hospitals. Let’s work together for the health of all mankind.
