Insightful Experience

Waritsara Panya
Naresuan University, Thailand

During my internship at the MG. Lab, my responsibilities were varied. I was learning novel laboratory procedures for my research. I was also entrusted with some minor responsibilities. In order to expose me to a practical work environment, they also assigned me tasks such as preparing chemical compounds and rearing worms (G.monella) for conducting experiments. I was extremely pleased in this laboratory.

The internship taught me not only research skills, but also communication skills, attitude, and perspectives, as well as time management and problem-solving. Which are desired qualities in all professionals. The internship will be extremely beneficial for my future profession. During my 16-week practicum, I gained a great deal of knowledge and information about the categories of work performed in the Laboratory. Now I am confident enough to enter the workforce.

I had the chance to participate in several community service activities organized by the university. It was incredibly fulfilling to contribute to the local community and witness firsthand the impact of Tzu Chi’s humanitarian efforts.

Living in Taiwan was a delightful experience. The country’s rich cultural heritage, delicious cuisine, and stunning landscapes fascinated me throughout my stay. Exploring the bustling night markets, visiting ancient temples, and hiking in the picturesque mountains were some of the memorable experiences I had outside the university.

The university also organized various cultural events and trips for international students, allowing us to immerse ourselves in Taiwanese traditions and customs. These events provided a platform for cultural exchange and helped me gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for Taiwanese culture.

Overall, my semester exchange experience at Tzu Chi University in Taiwan was truly transformative. It not only enhanced my academic knowledge but also broadened my horizons, fostered intercultural understanding, and instilled in me a sense of compassion and service towards others. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a remarkable institution and will cherish the memories and friendships I made during my time there.

This wonderful Buddhist university is located amidst the mountains in Hualien where life is not fast-paced like the city. Our university not only focuses on academics but allows students to have a wonderful choice of extracurricular activities too! Taiwan is a unique and fascinating place to experience student life. I noticed students having tea-making classes, learning flower decoration/arrangement and even learning traditional folk dance! Taiwanese people were not only friendly but very welcoming too. I was able to learn so much from my lab mates and they guided me at every step with immense support.

The country has a strong education system, with many universities and colleges offering a wide range of courses. Additionally, the cost of living in Taiwan is relatively low compared to other countries, making it an affordable option for students. This university has extraordinary equipment and you will be able to use the latest technology for doing your research! Would definitely recommend coming here to study!

Tzu Chi University has been really kind to offer me a great opportunity to engage in individual research for close to 6 months, while taking care of most of my needs. After having come here, right from the seniors who had assisted me to the staff who had enquired about my accommodation, well-being and other related matters, hospitality has been something that Tzu Chi has stood apart in. Accommodation and food are two things which everyone would expect when they are to stay in a place for a while, and Tzu Chi has taken consideration for doing it. My research experience has been quite a lesson for me, as I’ve not been engaged in individual research previously, but only group projects, and this has really opened up a big window in my life, as I learnt the process of asking a lot of questions to both myself and others, introspection, hard-work, perseverance, etc. all of which have been determining factors in completing whatever I could in this short time.

The internship at Tzu Chi University provided me with a unique platform to apply the theoretical knowledge I acquired throughout my academic journey. The university’s esteemed faculty members served as mentors and guides, imparting their wisdom and expertise. Their dedication and commitment to nurturing students’ growth were truly inspiring.
One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was the chance to collaborate with renowned professors and researchers. Their guidance and insights allowed me to delve deeper into my field of study, expand my understanding, and develop critical thinking skills. The university’s emphasis on research and innovation fueled my passion for knowledge and encouraged me to explore new avenues within my chosen discipline.

The internship program at Tzu Chi University not only focused on academic growth but also placed significant emphasis on developing professional skills. Through engaging workshops, seminars, and hands-on experiences, I acquired practical skills that will undoubtedly prove instrumental in my future endeavors.
Furthermore, Tzu Chi University’s emphasis on mindfulness and holistic well-being provided me with a nurturing environment for personal growth. Participating in mindfulness sessions, meditation, and self-reflection activities helped me develop a greater sense of self-awareness, resilience, and emotional intelligence. These invaluable lessons will continue to guide me throughout my life, both personally and professionally.
