Department of Medical Informatics

Bachelor’s Degree

Department Introduction

The department is committed to integrating information technology into the healthcare system to enhance healthcare quality and efficiency. We focus on the interdisciplinary study of information and biomedicine, with information technology as the foundation, and biomedical applications as the goal. The curriculum contains three programs, namely hospital information systems, healthcare technology, and bioinformatics, with equal emphasis on theory and practice.

Programming capability is the most important goal for our students. Professional courses are actually practiced in classes to enhance their programming skills. The department also works with business organizations and healthcare institutions to assist students in engaging in research projects and receiving internship training. Students who have completed their graduation projects can apply for internship training. They can experience the workplace and have ideas about their future career through this training.

Students may pick their research subjects listed below:

  • Medical auxiliary diagnosis
  • Medical image analysis
  • Hospital information system
  • Healthcare data standards
  • Embedded systems
  • Wearable devices
  • IT system for long-term care providers
  • Information security
  • Electronic health records
  • Data science
  • Medical text mining
  • Physiological signal measurement and analysis
  • Telemedicine
  • Disease network and gene association analysis
  • Next generation sequencing
  • Computational biology
  • Bioinformatics tool design
  • Smart healthcare
  • AI module design and development

Future Career

Pursue advanced studies:

Students may study medical informatics, medical imaging, bioinformatics, computer science, computer security, artificial intelligence, and data science, according to their interests.

Seek employment:

Students may join information institutions to engage in information technology R&D applications; they may also choose to work for healthcare institutions or biotechnology companies, and get involved with biomedical informatics R&D.
