Department of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics

Bachelor’s Degree

Department Introduction

This is the only department in Taiwan with human genetics studies in both undergraduate and master’s programs. Students can attain advanced knowledge, skills and laboratory techniques in genetic and molecular diagnostic.

The department initiated a set of courses in Biotechnology and Precision Medicine to guild student for choosing their elective courses. Besides basic research and medical science research-oriented courses, we also has special courses for Genetic Counseling in our master’s program for those who are interested to pursue a Genetic Counselor carrier after they graduated M.Sc.

To assist students in gaining interdisciplinary skills and expanding their career choices, the department provides biotech industries-related courses and summer internship training as well as career planning courses.

Faculty members are more than willing to share their abundant skills and knowledge with the students. Moreover, the department has excellent research capabilities, advanced teaching and research facilities, and equipment.

To meet students’ needs, we provide scholarships and grants, make electronic learning and research resources available, and offer career planning sessions.

If students are willing to pursue their advanced studies, the department provides a combined bachelor’s (B.Sc.) and master’s degree (M.Sc.) program for those who are willing to spend 5 years to achieve. Additionally, the University waives tuition and fees for those who start the master’s program in their fourth and fifth year.

Future Career

The department prepares students with knowledge and skills required to meet the needs of industries and research institutions, by providing professional courses and offering opportunities to enhance students’ lab skills.

Seek employment:

After graduation, students can engage in academic research, product development, or marketing work in educational institutions, healthcare organizations, biotechnology companies, or pharmaceutical companies.

Pursue advanced studies:

Students may pursue master’s or doctoral programs in biomedicine, in Taiwan or overseas.

Other career options:

If they have taken the University’s biomedical informatics and teaching-related programs, students can also choose to work for biomedical informatics institutions or become high school teachers.
