Department Introduction

For undergraduate students

The department aims to cultivate students’ Chinese and Japanese language, literature, intellectual, cultural theory, and application abilities.

The curriculum is divided into two groups, Chinese and Japanese, and focuses on the application and practice of both the Chinese and Japanese languages.

After graduation, students may choose to study in a field related to literature or language application or to work in the cultural and creative industries, as Chinese and Japanese language teachers, global Chinese language teachers, editorial secretaries, work in corporate businesses, or as interpreters and translators, etc. They can also work in public or state-run businesses.

 

For graduate students

The Institute features courses in language, literature, thought, teaching, documentation, and comparative cultural expression that are tailored to students’ research interests and professional needs, helping them to acquire relevant academic research skills in their professional fields of study.

After graduation, students may pursue further education, work as professionals in academic-related research fields, or work as faculty members. They can also work in public or state-run businesses.

Future Career

Students may choose to engage in academic research, artistic work, Chinese language teaching, teaching in high school, editing services, Chinese-Japanese translation, etc.

  • Chinese Proficiency Test results:
    ․Level A2 of the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language
    (TOCFL);
    ․Level 4 of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK); or
    ․Level A2 of the Common European Framework of
    Reference for Language (CEFR)

Evaluation Criteria

  • High school transcript:50%
  • Autobiography in Chinese:20%
