Department Introduction

The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) comprises three programs: Medical Sciences; Health Sciences; and Chinese Medicine Sciences. It aims to train Ph.D. students from different biomedical science disciplines in integrative, cooperative, prospective, and diversified ways.

Major features

    1. Faculty members of the College of Medicine work together to manage this institute.
    2. This institute carries out a cross-disciplinary integration of life sciences, basic medicine, clinical medicine, Chinese medicine and health science.
    3. This institute has diverse research resources, ranging from core labs both in University and teaching hospitals, the National Health Information Database, Library & Information Center, and Animal Center to laboratories and core facilities of different scales and functions.
    4. A translational program with integration of basic and clinical medicine.
    5. A program capable of offering online courses.
    6. A program with abundant resources and collaboration with numerous institutions in Taiwan and overseas.

Future Career

Students have a variety of choices, including expanding their current roles, and some of them are as follows:

    1. Physician-scientist
    2. Attending physician involved in research
    3. Engage in R&D and clinical trials in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology institution.
    4. Undertake research or management responsibility in a pharmaceutical-related agency of the government.
    5. Become a faculty member or research fellow of a medical school.
    6. Become a professional in studying and analyzing health issues and information.

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Proof of English proficiency in the past two years:
    ․Level B1 of the Common European Framework of
    Reference for Language (CEFR);
    ․Score 42 of TOEFL iBT;
    ․Score 460 of TOEFL ITP; or
    ․IELTS 4.

Evaluation Criteria

Means of screening is mainly based on application materials review. The Admissions Committee will contact applicants if an interview is required.

Remarks

  1. Students must complete one of the approved English language tests(TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 5.5) before graduation. (This is exempted for students from English speaking countries)
  2. Course prerequisite:General Biology and one of the following courses:Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry.
  3. Full English courses of the International Biomedical Graduate Program (IBGP) are available.
