Department Introduction

Our unique features are listed below:

    • With the spirit of kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity in mind, the school prepares students to become medical professionals capable of integrating Chinese medicine and Western medicine with skills, knowledge, and altruism.
    • The school provides courses based on modern medical education. It emphasizes evidence-based learning to prepare students to be good at diagnostics and therapeutics using both Western medicine and Chinese medicine in their practices.
    • We collaborate with Tzu Chi Hospitals and other Tzu Chi affiliates to provide abundant opportunities for students with comprehensive Chinese and Western medicine training.

       

    • The school works on numerous interdisciplinary research projects. It seeks to utilize scientific approaches to evaluate the efficacy of various Chinese medicine treatment modalities, such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, etc.

       

    • Tzu Chi affiliate’s charity and healthcare endeavors have reached over one hundred countries worldwide. The school plans to work continuously with Tzu Chi volunteers and other Tzu Chi affiliates, extending traditional Chinese medicine to enhance the well-being of humanity.

The school plans to head for the future in the following directions:

    1. With the cultivation of a new generation of Chinese medicine practitioners in mind, the school will keep developing a healthcare model, integrating Chinese medicine and Western medicine and making it a vital modality of mainstream healthcare worldwide.

       

    2. Collaborate with researchers/experts in basic medicine and clinical applications, in Chinese medicine and Western medicine, in Taiwan and overseas to put forward evidence-based research on individualized treatment approaches in Chinese medicine, to establish efficacy indicators of treatment. The school wishes to become one of the global benchmarks of integrating research endeavors in Chinese medicine and Western medicine.

       

    3. To face the challenges of treating rare/intractable diseases and enhancing humanity’s well-being, the school plans to integrate Chinese medicine and Western medicine further and employ molecular biology and other cutting-edge biomedical technologies to produce innovations beneficial to humanity.

Future Career

Seek employment:

Students have a wide range of career choices. After completing residency training, they can work for healthcare institutions or open their own practices; students can also become teachers, get involved in public administration, or conduct research in basic medicine.

Pursue advanced studies:

Students may pursue master’s or doctoral studies. They may choose to study traditional medicine, biomedicine, medical engineering, medical law, health management, healthcare institutions, public health, social welfare, etc.

Documents to Be Submitted

  • Chinese proficiency test results
  • English proficiency test results
  • A study plan must be written in Chinese and in applicant’s handwriting, to include learning motivation, expected length of study and future plan(s), and should be submitted along with application package.
  • Chinese proficiency test results:
    ․Level 4 of the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL);
    ․Level 6 of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)
  • English proficiency test results
    ․Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference
    for Language (CEFR);
    ․Score 47 of TOEFL iBT;
    ․Score 460 of TOEFL ITP

Evaluation Criteria

Qualified prospective students must come to TCU to take the following exams:

  • The Chinese language exam(test scores of prospective students must satisfy the minimum standard of 60 points)
  • Chemistry and biology exams
  • Interview for medical suitability, aptitude, humaneness and ability to communicate in Chinese.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Exams:50%
  • Interviews:30%
  • Other documents pertinent to the application:20%

※Tzu Chi University School of Post-Baccalaureate Chinese Medicine review panel determines the minimal admission fraction.

Remarks

  1. Proficiency in Chinese (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) is required; Chinese proficiency test results, which meets the International or their governmental standard, must be submitted.
  2. The applicant should have a score of at least 457 for the institutional testing program TOEFL (ITP), or at least 47 for the internet-based TOEFL (iBT).
  3. The applicant should have a bachelor’s degree and Level 4 Certificate or above for the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL), or an equivalent certificate.
  4. Chinese is used in classes and exams.
  5. No admission will be granted if minimum requirements are not met.

6. Prospective students with the same overall scores will be admitted, according to their exam scores in biology.

※Transfer of Credits: An applicant, who has graduated from the Department of Medicine of any overseas university, which is approved by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, and possesses a medical license in that country, may apply to be exempted from the Western Medicine curriculum. Credits attained prior to admission must be submitted with the application and further evaluated by the departmental committee before transfer of credits. Transfer of credits from other universities shall be handled according to the credit-transfer regulations of TCU.
